It's exciting to think that with today's vast knowlege of science and treatment practices, we can all – men and women and adolescents alike – enjoy the benefits of beautiful skin like no other generation has ever known!
The practices of skin care, beautification and anti-aging have existed for over five thousand years. If you're interested in a more complete history the evolution and highlights of the aesthetics profession, click here. These practices became truly "profesionialized" in 1980 when the aesthetician profession was formally recognized by our society.
My Background
By the age of eight, my life as an aesthetician had already been influenced by my parents, a mother who was a cosmetologist and a father who was a botanist and owner of a landscaping and nursery business. I knew then that extracts from plants could heal and be used to create creams that could make people more beautiful. As I grew older, I could see how the body is a graceful landscape form that can be smoothed, and for men," scaped," so as to become even more attractive. These fundamentals have influenced my professional growth as a licensed aesthetician, make-up artist, and professional photographer. Many people ask me about the name of my skin care business. As my specialty is facial treatments, I chose the word "Visage" — French for "face" — in the naming of my skin-care practice. The face is our most important link to the world. It's features are key to our ability to communicate and to keep in touch with everything around us. The more pleasant we appear and more worthy of respect, the more others will be pleasant, supportive and attentive to us.
Your Assurance of Ethical Care
Today, there can nothing more important than knowing you're being treated by a professional who ascribes to a code of ethical practices. I'm a professional member of the respected "Associated Skin Care Professionals," an organization that provides many forms of business and professional services to aestheticians. As a member, I must pay dues, ascribe to a set of ethical standards that I must follow to maintain a high level of professionalism. To transgress will lead to a series of professional prohibitions, including rejection from the association. Click this link to see the ASCP Code of Ethics.
